Uganda’s Ministry of Tourism has rebranded the Uganda Hotel and Tourism Training Institute (UHTTI) in Jinja to Hotel Tourism Training College (HTTC), aligning with a new Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) framework law to enhance practical skills. The change, announced during an August 8 ceremony, aims to unify vocational training under the updated curriculum, improving workforce quality amid challenges like poor infrastructure and limited facilities.
A cohort of 150 apprentices in culinary arts, hospitality, and guiding will gain hands-on experience in Jinja hotels. HTTC Principal Richard Kawere highlighted the college’s strong industry reputation and the importance of well-trained graduates for Uganda’s tourism growth and employment. The initiative supports Uganda’s goal to professionalize its hospitality sector and expand international opportunities.
