Detailed itinerary of the 4 days Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu Safari

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Upon arrival in the land of a thousand hills (as Rwanda is popularly known), you will be met and greeted by our company representative who will also be your driver/guide for the 4 days Rwanda Gorilla and Lake Kivu Safari. He will then brief you on your exciting tour and drive you to the Park while relishing the cool breeze of Kigali and Rwanda’s countryside, the beautiful and lush rolling hills from which the country derived its “land of a thousand hills” title. Arrive in time for the wilderness lunch, relax and later dinner.

Accommodation options:

  • Luxury: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Bisate Lodge.
  • Midrange: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge
  • Budget: Kinigi Guesthouse or Muhabura Hotel.

Meal Plan: Lunch and Dinner.

Travel time: 3 hours.

Day 2: Mountain gorillas trekking and cultural encounter

No wildlife encounter, no documentaries or wildlife films will be as unforgettable as meeting face to face with the giant apes in their natural habitat. You will have breakfast and get your trekking gear ready, then transfer to the Kinigi Park Headquarters for briefing on the guidelines of trekking or being in the presence of the Mountain gorillas. Trekking for the mountain gorillas involves hiking through the rugged terrain, thick forest, maneuvering muddy trails and sometimes being pricked by unpleasant insects or plants but the experience is worthwhile because your one hour with them is more exciting than over ten hours with other wildlife. After one hour of studying, taking photos and recording videos of your encounter, return to the Lodge for lunch.

If you still feel energetic, head for the cultural tour to the Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for traditional beer brewing lessons, dancing and drumming lessons, basket weaving demonstrations, visit to the traditional healer, traditional meal preparation lessons and excitingly get a chance to be “Royal for a day”. Later return to the Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Accommodation options:

  • Luxury: Mountain Gorilla View Lodge or Bisate Lodge.
  • Midrange: Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge or Da Vinci Gorilla Lodge
  • Budget: Kinigi Guesthouse or Muhabura Hotel.

Whether its simple relaxation by a Lakeshore beach, swimming, boat cruise to the tranquil islands, guided nature walk or kayaking, you are sure of unwinding at Lake Kivu after your invigorating gorilla tour in Volcanoes National Park. A boat ride for instance leads to some of the Islands, one of which is Nyamirundi Island where Arabica coffee is grown and processed into the finest coffee that you find in your countries of origin. Not only that, but numerous bird species can also be spotted.

Dinner and overnight at:
