After trekking the rare mountain gorillas in the jungles of Volcanoes National Park,  visit Lake Kivu, the perfect relaxation spot in Rwanda.

Extending for 160 square kilometers, Volcanoes National Park is a fantastic gorilla trekking destination sprawled within the north-western corner of Rwanda. Located within the vast Virunga Conservation Area, the park is home to several gorilla families. Lake Kivu on the other hand is Rwanda’s largest Lake, and is home to numerous adventurous activities and relaxation.

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park.
Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking and cultural encounter.
Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu and Explore lake
Day 3: Return to Kigali City and departure.

DETAILED ITINERARY: 

Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Volcanoes National Park
Meet, greet your safari guide and transfer to Volcanoes National Park Rwanda (+/-3hours), with beautiful scenery and lush rolling hills from which the country derives its name – the “land of a thousand hills”.
On arrival, Transfer to your lodge.(LD)

Day 2: Gorilla trekking / Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village visit
Today, report to Kinigi Visitor Centre for a briefing on gorilla trekking. Then depart for your trekking experience in search of the mountain gorillas. Gorilla trekking involves hiking through the rugged terrain, thick forest, and maneuvering muddy trails. This can be strenuous therefore physical fitness is required.
After you locate the gorillas, spend 1 hour with these amazing rare apes.

Later, visit Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village for a cultural experience – traditional beer brewing lessons, dancing and drumming lessons, basket weaving demonstrations, visit to the traditional healer and have traditional meal preparation lessons. Enjoy the unique cultural dances, music performances & cultural exhibitions.
After, return to your lodge (FB)

Day 3: Transfer to Lake Kivu / Explore Lake Kivu
Today, transfer to Lake Kivu the largest freshwater Lake in Rwanda, surrounded with beautiful mountains and with sights of birds and primates. Whether its simple relaxation by a Lakeshore beach, swimming, boat cruise to the tranquil islands, guided nature walk or kayaking, you are sure of unwinding at Lake Kivu.
Transfer to your lodge (FB)

Day 4: Transfer back to Kigali
Transfer back to Kigali and take a city tour –  visiting the Genocide Memorial Center, local craft market and the museum before transferring to your hotel / residence / Airport for your departure flight.
