UGANDA PREPARES TO HOLD INAUGURAL RHINO NAMING CEREMONY:

Uganda will host its first Rhino Naming Ceremony on September 22, 2025, at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola. Led by President Museveni, the event celebrates the ongoing $11 million Name A Rhino Campaign, which funds rhino conservation, habitat expansion, and anti-poaching efforts.

The ceremony offers individuals and organizations the chance to “adopt” and name rhino calves, supporting conservation and community projects. Uganda’s rhino population has grown from near extinction in the 1980s to 48 rhinos today, thanks to breeding programs at Ziwa Sanctuary.

The event also marks plans to translocate rhinos to Ajai Wildlife Reserve, boosting tourism and economic opportunities. UTB CEO emphasized the significance of protecting Uganda’s natural heritage for sustainable tourism and growth.

Under Uganda’s Rhino Conservation Strategy (2018–2028), the country aims for at least 5% annual rhino population growth through enhanced security, reintroduction, and public education. UWA is working to ensure rhinos are relocated to Ajai by year’s end, inviting support from individuals, companies, and global partners to secure Uganda’s rhino future.
