UGANDA LAUNCHES NATIONAL TOURISM POLICY 2025 TO BOOST SECTOR GROWTH:

Uganda has officially launched the National Tourism Policy 2025, a strategic framework aimed at enhancing competitiveness, building resilience, and positioning the country among Africa’s top five tourist destinations. Minister of Tourism Tom Butime described it as a turning point for the sector, aligning with Vision 2040, the National Development Plan IV, and the Ten-Fold Growth Strategy.

The policy focuses on high-growth areas such as MICE tourism, AFCON 2027 opportunities, cultural tourism, oil and gas corridor tourism, and youth-led digital innovations. It also prioritizes safety, product development, destination branding, and investment facilitation.

Officials highlighted that coordinated implementation could generate at least USD 4 billion annually and create significant employment opportunities. Stakeholders, including the Uganda Tourism Association, emphasized the need for collaboration, private sector engagement, and removing barriers to investment. The policy underscores Uganda’s commitment to leveraging its natural and cultural resources to drive inclusive growth and strengthen its global tourism profile.
