The 2025 Virunga Gorilla Marathon attracted nearly 1,000 runners across Uganda and the Kisoro region.
Featuring 6km, 10km, 21km, and 42km races, it showcased stunning landscapes and promoted conservation and climate action.
With the theme “Running for Conservation and Climate Action”, The event highlighted conservation and climate action, offering stunning views of the Virunga volcanoes and Lake Mutanda. It’s now Uganda’s top annual sports and tourism event, promoting community development and sustainability, with funds supporting local tree planting. The event boosted tourism, and included a lively “Neon Rave” after-party. Supported by major partners, the marathon aims to expand further in 2026, emphasizing sustainability and community engagement.
