TENS OF THOUSANDS @ KABAKA’S 70TH BIRTHDAY RUN – UGANDA.

Tens of thousands attended the Kabaka’s 70th Birthday run on April 6, which drew approximately 120,000 participants despite rainy weather. Attended by the Kabaka of Buganda, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, this annual marathon, now in its 12th year, celebrates his birthday and serves as a fundraiser and awareness campaign for HIV/AIDS.

In a speech delivered by Buganda Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga, the Kabaka emphasized the need for men to take an active role in combating HIV/AIDS, likening the fight against the disease to a modern-day battle. He also stressed the importance of unity within the kingdom against divisive forces.

The event organized in Uganda aims to raise funds for health initiatives, with proceeds supporting projects like condom distribution and medical supplies. Past runs have successfully funded a treatment facility for fistula at Kitovu Hospital. This year’s theme, “Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child,” highlights health challenges within the kingdom.

Pre-birthday celebrations included the opening of a new building at St. Peter’s Secondary School in honor of the Kabaka, health camps in various counties, and a new outpatient hospital in Busimbi.
