Uganda’s Ministry of Tourism, Uganda Tourism Board, Uganda Wildlife Authority, and Uganda Airlines announced UGX 800 million in support for the Rwenzori marathon 2025, scheduled for August 23 in Kasese.
The marathon offers 42km, 21km, and 5km races for all levels and promotes exploring the Rwenzori region’s parks, lakes, and cultural sites.
Officials highlighted the event’s role in boosting regional tourism, local businesses, and international visibility. Last year, the marathon generated over UGX 15 billion in Kasese, with increasing participation from Kenya, aiming to attract 2,000–3,000 Kenyan runners by 2026. The event will feature participants from 32 countries, with support including discounted park entry, influencer tours, and discounted flights by Uganda Airlines to promote Uganda’s tourism potential.
