BATWA MODEL VILLAGE LAUNCHES TO EMPOWER INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES:

The Kanyamahene Batwa Model Village has been launched in Kisoro District, marking progress in inclusive conservation and community welfare.

Supported by the Bwindi Mgahinga Conservation Trust (BMCT) initiatives, the village provides housing, water, land, and essentials to 8 Batwa families, aiding their resettlement after displacement. BMCT has also secured land for 303 households, built houses, and supported education for over 700 Batwa children.
Urged for replication across Uganda, the project enhances conservation through ranger training, anti-poaching, and community infrastructure. It has been highlighted as a symbol of hope, emphasizing a balanced approach to environmental and community development.
