6 days Rwanda primate, 6 days Rwanda primate tour is an exceptional gorilla and chimpanzee trekking safari package designed for you to strike your imaginations with the rare mountain gorillas and chimpanzees while in their natural habitats. This package takes you to Volcanoes National Park to trek mountain gorillas and Nyungwe Forest National Park for chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk.

Brief itinerary of your 6 days Rwanda primate tour

Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Day 3: Drive to Lake Kivu for an afternoon boat ride

Day 4: Explore Lake Kivu and fishing villages then drive to Volcanoes National Park

Day 1: Drive from Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

Pick up by one of our best and experienced tour guides at the airport or hotel. He will brief you on your primate adventure then drive you to Nyungwe Forest in Southwestern Rwanda. This is Rwanda’s premier primate safari park hosting over 13 primate species. It is approximately 5 hours’ drive from Kigali capital city.

Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking and canopy walk in Nyungwe Forest National Park

Expect to rise up early to prepare and enjoy your breakfast. After, report to Uwinka reception for briefing on chimpanzee trekking safety measures and this is done by park official. After briefing, hit the jungles with park ranger guide to look for chimpanzees our closest relatives and this takes you about 2-4 hours including one hour of face to face encounter. There are also some amazing primates and birds to sight along the way to boost your experience. Later, return to the lodge to relax and in the afternoon, complete your day with a canopy walk to spot variety of birds and primates.

Day 3: Drive to Lake Kivu for an afternoon boat ride

After breakfast early in the morning, drive to Lake Kivu the largest Lake in Rwanda. Get here early and enjoy lunch. Have some rest then embark on a boat ride on Lake Kivu to one of its scenic islands. Later, chill at the shores in the evening. Dine and spend a night at hotel you booked.

Day 4: Explore Lake Kivu and fishing villages then drive to Volcanoes National Park

Have breakfast early in the morning and after, you will explore the scenic Lake Kivu and also sight diversity of birds plus some primates. This stunning lake is one of the incredible places to relax and you will also pay a visit to nearby communities. Later, the safari guide will drive you to Volcanoes National Park to retire for a night as you wait to participate in gorilla trekking the next day.

Day 5: Gorilla trekking and visit to Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village

After your enjoyable breakfast, head to Kinigi park offices at 7:00am to be briefed on guidelines for gorilla trekking. Briefing is mandatory because not only will you get to know the safety measures but it is period in which visitors are assigned to a habituated gorilla group to track. 10 gorilla families have been habituated and readily available for gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park.

At 8:00am, the park ranger guide assigned to you takes you to begin a search for mountain gorillas and this takes about 2 to 6 hours inclusive of one hour of magical encounter and photography. This is a strenuous adventure therefore don’t forget to come along with some packed snacks and bottled drinking water. Return after your magical experience to relax and later, go for cultural tour in Iby’Iwacu Cultural Village to interact with local residents, enjoy their dances, music performances and a lot more.

Day 6: Drive back to Kigali

Rise up early in the morning to begin your day with a hot cup of tea or coffee and later, check out of your gorilla safari lodge. Your tour leader will then take you back to Kigali for city tour. This involves you visiting local markets, Gisozi genocide site, king’s palace and many more. Later, transfer to Kigali Airport to fly back home in case your flight is scheduled the same day. This will mark the end of your 6 days Rwanda primate tour.
