This chimpanzee trekking tour is a short primate safari, that takes you to Nyungwe Forest National Park in Southwestern Rwanda. The safari involves trekking through the rain-forest in search of chimpanzees in their natural habitat and it also includes a canopy walk, the first of a kind experience in the East African region.

The forest also has several primate species like colobus monkeys, baboons, L’Hoest monkeys, vervet monkeys including an estimate of over 500 chimpanzees and different plant and bird species.

BRIEF ITINERARY:
Day 1: Depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest National Park / Canopy walk
Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking and Return to Kigali

DETAILED ITINERARY:

Day 1: Depart Kigali for Nyungwe Forest National Park / Canopy walk

Pick up by your safari guide at the airport / hotel, and transfer to Nyungwe Forest in Southwestern Rwanda (+/-5 hrs). This is Rwanda’s premier primate safari park hosting over 13 primate species. Enroute, stopover at Nyanza King’s palace.

On arrival,  transfer to the Uwinka Visitor Center for briefing prior to embarking on a canopy walk. The canopy is on a 160m long walkway, suspended on a 70m high bridge over Nyungwe forest. You stand a chance to spot variety of birds, primates and stunning views of Nyungwe Forest canopy.
After, transfer to your lodge (LD)

Day 2: Chimpanzee trekking / Transfer to Kigali
This morning, report to Uwinka HQ for briefing on chimpanzee trekking safety measures by park officials, before departing in search of chimpanzees. The forest also has several primates, tree species – including the playful baboons, grey cheeked mangabeys, L’Hoest monkeys, red-tailed monkeys, Rwenzori colobus monkeys, black and white colobus monkeys. Also amphibians, reptiles and birds to sight along the way.
After finding the chimpanzees, spend 1 hour with them  learning their behaviors, habits and having photographic opportunities.

After, transfer back to Kigali – visiting the Genocide Memorial Center, before transferring to your hotel / residence / Airport for your departure flight.
