Detailed itinerary of your 12 days Uganda safari

Day 1: Travel from Entebbe Airport to the hotel in Kampala

Get a warm welcome by your driver guide to Uganda, the Pearl of Africa. Enjoy the cool breeze from the scenic Lake Victoria, the second largest and freshwater lake in the world. Later, drive from Entebbe International Airport to Kampala capital city for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay at a hotel you booked in Kampala.

Day 2: Drive from Kampala to Murchison Falls National Park

Wake up early and have breakfast. After, drive to Murchison Falls National Park along Kampala-Gulu highway. This is about 311kms journey and en-route; you will have a stopover for rhino tracking at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary in Nakasongola. It is 7kms away from Nakitooma and you will have a chance to see the white rhinos, antelopes, birds and a lot more. Return to have lunch at Kabalega Dinners then proceed to Murchison Falls National Park via Kichumbanyobo gate.

Day 3: Game drive & boat cruise in Murchison Falls National Park

Have breakfast and later, meet your safari guide for a morning game drive towards the Northern circuit of Murchison Falls National Park. This involves sighting different wildlife species including Rothschild giraffes, African bush elephants, buffaloes, warthogs, birds, hartebeests plus many other antelopes, lions, leopards and others.

Your game drive experience will last between 2 and 3 hours in a comfortable 4×4 rental car. After, drive back to be served lunch and have some relaxation as you wait for an afternoon boat cruise to the bottom of Murchison Falls.

At 2:00pm on a boat cruise towards the bottom of the falls, expect to sight different schools of hippos, basking crocodiles, water birds and a lot more. You will also enjoy the scenic view of the falls at the bottom, take pictures then engage in a walk to the top of the falls.

At the top of the falls, witness the powerful Murchison Falls as it squeezes itself in a narrow gorge of 7m before plunging 43m below forming a permanent rainbow and what is best described as the Devil’s Cauldron. Return by 4×4 Safari Van or Land Cruiser to relax, dine and spend a night at your preferred safari lodge.

Day 4: Leave Murchison Falls National Park for Kibale Forest National Park

Leave Murchison Falls National Park for Kibale Forest National Park after breakfast and checking out of the lodge. Your trip covers between 6 and 7 hours but it comes with magical view of the Albertine Rift Valley and lunch stopover at a hotel in Fort Portal city. After lunch, pay a visit to the Palace of Tooro Kingdom and then connect to Kibale Forest National Park, the Primate Capital of the World. Day 5: Chimpanzee tracking in Kibale and guided nature walk in Bigodi Wetland

You will report to Kanyanchu Visitor Centre early to get to know chimpanzee tracking rules during briefing at 7:00am after your breakfast. The park official will assign to you a park ranger guide to take you on chimpanzee trek starting at 8:00am. This lasts for 2-4 hours inclusive of 1 hour of you exploring more about chimpanzees’ daily behaviors and taking pictures.

Along the  way, there are many other primates to expect to sight and these include among others the red tailed monkeys, baboons, red colobus monkeys, L’Hoest monkeys and many more bird species. Walk back to your primate safari lodge for lunch and at 2:00pm, expect to drive to Bigodi Wetland for a guided nature walk. This is to get you close to nature with opportunity to look out for more primates, birds like the Great Blue Turacos and several mammal species. Dinner and overnight stay at primate lodge.

Day 6: Drive from Kibale to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Enjoy your breakfast and after, take 2-3 hours to drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park while getting the best of breathtaking view of the Rwenzori Mountains and rift valley. Lunch will be served to you at wildlife safari lodge then you take part in a boat cruise/launch trip via Kazinga Channel. There is a lot to catch a glimpse here right from hippos, crocodiles and water birds. Relaxation, dinner and overnight stay in safari lodge you booked.

Day 7: Game drive and drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Wake up early and have breakfast. Later, go for your morning game drive through Kasenyi Plains. Lasting for about 2 to 3 hours in a 4×4 safari vehicle with pop-up, your game drive allows you see elephants, buffaloes, Uganda Kobs, lions, leopards, birds, waterbucks and many more. Return from game viewing to have lunch at wildlife safari lodge. After, drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park about 3-4 hours with a chance to see the tree climbing lions at Ishasha area. Proceed to Bwindi with lunch stopover at Savanna Resort before you connect to your gorilla safari lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 8: Gorilla trekking and Batwa community walk

Enjoy your breakfast and after, gather at briefing point in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You will be briefed on guidelines for gorilla trekking starting at 7:00am and as well, you will be allocated to a habituated gorilla family which you will trek in a group of 8 visitors. 20 gorilla group families are available for gorilla trekking adventures and they are found in the park’s 4 regions; Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo sectors.

Your group will be accompanied by an armed and experienced park ranger guide. The entire adventure takes between 2 and 6 hours inclusive of 1 hour of magical encounter and photography. You also stand a chance to spot other primates and birds, thereafter, walk back to the gorilla safari lodge to relax and have lunch.

In the evening, walk to Batwa community to interact with the Batwa, learn about their, lifestyles, hunting and gathering techniques; enjoy their inspiring dances and music performances. Dinner and overnight stay at Uganda gorilla safari lodge.

Day 9: Drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park

Enjoy your cup of tea or coffee and later, drive to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park Uganda’s second gorilla trekking safari park. This is the only park in Uganda where mountain gorillas live in the same habitat with golden monkeys and it sits in an area of 33.7sq.kms making it also Uganda’s smallest park.

Arrive early to engage in a hiking excursion via park’s volcanic area while enjoying the scenic view of Crater Lake and Virunga Volcanoes plus surrounding areas. Lunch will be served to you at the lodge. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge you booked.

Day 10: Golden monkey tracking and Batwa trail   

After breakfast, report to Ntebeko park centre for briefing on golden monkey tracking rules starting early at 7:00am. At 8:00am, you will start your search for golden monkeys taking you about 2-4 hours inclusive of an hour of magical encounter. Later, return to the lodge to enjoy lunch and have some relaxation.

In the afternoon, explore the Batwa trail with opportunity to interact with the Batwa, enjoy the unique dances, music performances and get to know the traditional hunting and gathering techniques of the Batwa pygmies. Dinner and overnight stay at the safari lodge.

Day 11: Transfer from Mgahinga National Park to Lake Bunyonyi

Have breakfast and after, drive to Lake Bunyonyi a magical lake with 29 islands widely dotted on it. This lake is well-known for variety of little birds and also ranked as second deepest in Africa. It is one stunning lake which is free from hippos and crocodiles making it ideal for swimming. You will embark on a boat ride to one of the islands while spotting birds and enjoying the beautiful surrounding areas. Dinner and overnight stay at safari lodge.

Day 12: Return to Kampala
