It is one of the best short gorilla safaris designed to allow those of you with limited time or on budget tour to also be part of the exhilarating gorilla trekking experience.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is well-positioned in Southwestern Uganda and your trip will start from Kigali then cross through Chanika/Katuna border to Kisoro/Kabale where you can connect to Buhoma, Rushaga, Nkuringo or Ruhija gorilla trekking regions, about 3-4 hours’ drive.

Since your gorilla tour involves border crossing, expect to rise up early to start your journey that will cover between 3 and 4 hours’ drive from Kigali to Bwindi National Park. You will have breakfast in your 4×4 rental car and get to Buhoma, Ruhija, Nkuringo or Rushaga region depending on where your gorilla permit directs you to join other visitors for briefing on gorilla trekking rules and regulations.

Briefing usually begins at 7:00a.m and it a moment the park official will also allocate to you a habituated gorilla group to trek in a group of 8 visitors. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has 20 gorilla families open for gorilla trekking but only one will be assigned to you. With your bottled water and some packed lunch, the actual gorilla trek begins at 8:00am with park ranger guide on lead and joined by porters carrying visitor luggage.

The length of the trek to see mountain gorillas depends on the nature of the habitat, location and your speed of walking. But it can take you 2-6 hours less or more and it includes 1 hour of magical encounter with these great apes and photography.
